Meet the 2025 Healthcare Studies Scholarship Recipients
The Leduc Community Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce the 2025 Healthcare Studies Scholarship recipients, Jerome Jacob and Alan Ritson. These dedicated students have demonstrated a strong commitment to the healthcare field and a passion for making a meaningful impact in their communities.
Jerome, a recent graduate of Christ the King Leduc High School, will pursue a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of Alberta. Motivated by a desire to address the mental health challenges faced by children and youth, he aspires to become a pediatric clinical psychologist. In addition to his academic pursuits, Jerome is a black belt in karate and actively mentors younger students, instilling confidence and discipline while helping them navigate challenges such as bullying.
“This scholarship will support my path toward becoming a pediatric clinical psychologist, where I aim to make a lasting impact on the mental and emotional well-being of children and youth in our community,” says Jerome.
Alan Ritson, currently in his third year of nursing studies, has gained invaluable hands-on experience while working at the Leduc Community Hospital. His role as a youth basketball coach has also helped him cultivate essential life and professional skills such as collaboration, effective communication and support – qualities that are fundamental in his chosen healthcare profession. Alan’s long-term goal is to become a nurse practitioner, allowing him greater autonomy in patient care.
“As I continue on my academic and professional path, I am devoted to lifelong learning, professional growth and community involvement,” explains Alan. “My experiences as a nursing student, hospital employee and volunteer have all helped me grow as a healthcare worker.”
Established in 2021, the Healthcare Studies Scholarships have been awarded annually to students from the Leduc region who are enrolled in post-secondary healthcare-related studies.
“It is a core goal of the Foundation to support the academic endeavours of local students that will lead to a career in healthcare,” adds Camille Bailer, Chair of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees. “This is one more important way the Foundation, through the generosity of our donors and partners, is able to enhance and elevate the health and well being of our community.”
The next call for applications will be announced this fall. Visit the Scholarships and Awards page for more information about eligibility and the application process.
The Scholarships and Awards Program is made possible through the generosity of the Foundation’s donors and supporters, including the Rotary Club of Nisku-Leduc.
